Image Processing and Analysis (IPA)

Image Processing and Analysis (IPA) broadens SimplePCI with customized icon driven work-files (macros) for multiple applications. Dynamic interaction between image objects, graphs, and tables provide instant user feedback. Create custom measurements with built-in equation editor to expand over 150 measurements, including count, size, shape, position, intensity and color of objects in an image.

IPA Features:
  • Apply pixel processing to images using median, smooth, gradient, laplacian, sobel, kirsch, erode, dilate or other filters
  • Define objects with monochrome/color threshold, or graphical drawing tools
  • Modify detected binary objects using separate, erode, dilate, skeleton, prune, node, AND/NOT/NOR, plus accept/reject/draw/erase editor functions
  • Qualify objects for measurement by threshold on size, shape, position, color and intensity combinations
  • Interactively display measured data with statistics, histograms, tables and spreadsheet displays
  • Automatically run work-files on stored image files for post analysis

  • Applications:
  • Quantitative autoradiography and densitometry
  • In-situ hybridization using grain counting techniques
  • Vessel morphometry and angiogenesis
  • Multi-color immunostain analysis
  • Neural process density
  • Cell counting and quantification

  • Motion Tracking Analysis (IPA-MTA)

Image Processing Analysis and Motion Tracking Analysis (IPA-MTA) compliments SimplePCI to track multiple objects across time separated image sequences. Data documents store images as fields for convenient analysis using IPA of size (area), position (center of gravity) and time (field time). MTA rapidly tracks through measured data to report distance moved with straight and curved line velocity.

    MTA Features:
  • Rapid tracking of multiple objects automatically
  • Adjustable parameters
  • Determine object velocity
  • View Individual object trajectory
  • Show actual, averaged and straight line velocity
  • Save tracked objects as AVI movies
  • Export data to spreadsheet

  • Tracking Information:
  • Cell position - X, Y coordinate
  • Cell area - number of pixels
  • Distance - length of a line in calibrated units (e.g. Microns)
  • Velocity - average speed along the track (distance/time taken)
  • Direction - angle measured in degrees
  • Number of points - how many consecutive images contain the same object in a track
  • Linearity - factor indicating how close the track is to a straight line
  • Straightness - fractional ratio between straight line and mean path
  • ALH mean - mean amplitude of transitions either side of mean path
  • ALH max - maximum amplitude of transitions either side of mean path
  • Circ radius - computed radius constraining circular motion of a subject
  • BCF - beat cross frequency, reports how often a track crosses its mean path

  • Applications:
  • Motion analysis
  • Quantify velocity, distance and direction
  • Sperm motility
  • Moving bacteria
  • Compatible with high speed streaming
  • Quantify slow speed and irregular time sequences
